Investigation for effects of high and low gas inlet on characteristics of rim sealing

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

To study the effects of the high and low inlet on the ingestion, an experimental and unsteady numerical investigation was conducted to study the effects of high-low air inlet on the characteristics of rim seal, and the mixing flow of high and low air inlet was analyzed. The results show that different air inlet types had influence on the axial distribution of sealing effectiveness. The axial distribution of sealing effectiveness of high gas inlet was upward, but low gas inlet was the opposite. However, for two kinds of gas inlet, the sealing effectiveness was almost the same near the rim seal. High gas inlet can more effectively stop the diffusion process than low gas inlet, but two kinds of gas inlet do not change the diffusion process at the rim seal.
