Abstract
Molecular imaging is a growing research discipline with the convergence of biomathematics, multimodality imaging techniques, bioinformatics, cell & molecular biology, chemistry, medical physics, pharmacology and medicine. The European Society for Molecular Imaging defines molecular imaging as the characterization of the dynamics of the molecular processes in living organisms in vivo [1]. It provides potential for the understanding of integrative biology, earlier detection and characterization of disease and the evaluation of treatment. If the first Nobel Prize in Physics for discovery of X-rays marked the advent of medical imaging, molecular imaging opens up a new era.
