Abstract

Internal strain monitoring in an actual civil engineering structure was implemented with the embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors, and several on-site embedded and protected schemes of FBGs sensors were developed. Internal strain response of a pre-stressed RC beam, which is one of box beams of the Chinese Hulan-river bridge, was monitored during the tension process and a static test. The internal strain and temperature of the beam were monitored under traffic loads FBG. The practical results indicate that FBG sensors have the ability to provide continuous and accurate information for the health monitoring of major civil infrastructures.
