Abstract

The Y2O3 crucible was applied for vacuum induction melting of pure Ti. Chemical composition, microstructure, mechanical properties of prepared Ti and metal/crucible contacted interface were analyzed. Some Y 2O3 particle in the ingot can be observed, showing the absence of reaction of Y2O3 and pure Ti. The interaction mechanism of crucible and melt is characterized by physical erosion of the crucible by the melt and the dissolution of Y2O3 in the liquid Ti.
