Integral imaging 3D display system with improved depth of field using a colloidal scattering layer

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an integral imaging 3D display system to enhance the three-dimensional (3D) depth of field (DOF) by using a colloidal scattering layer (CSL). The CSL is composed of colloid with a certain thickness. It can scatter light in the whole range and weaken the grid of 3D images caused by the gap of the micro-lens array in the integral imaging 3D display system. Compared with the integral imaging 3D display using a diffuser screen, DOF of 3D images that can be reconstructed clearly can be improved. Experimental results indicate that the DOF can be enhanced from less than 10 mm to more than 30 mm.
