Abstract

The corrosion behavior of TiC nanoparticles modified LPBF Al-Mg-Li alloy was investigated in detail. The results demonstrate that the heterogeneous nucleation of nano-sized particles and the formation of Al3Ti namoparticles with L12 structure induce the substantial grain refinement, which effectively improve the densification of alloy. However, the nanoparticles act as micro-cathodic phase to induce the localized corrosion in fine grain regions. In contrast, some introduced particles partially agglomerate to form micro-sized particles, directly leading to the generation of step-like corrosion pits. Compared to the nanoparticles, the micro-sized TiC particles show more pronounced effect on the corrosion behavior.
