Influence of Depolarization Effects of Underlying Rough Surfaces on Polarization Measurement and Calibration

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Fully polarization measurements outdoors are not only affected by the distortion of radar systems, but also by the interactions between underlying rough surfaces and target. In this paper, the influence of depolarization effects of underlying rough surfaces on polarization measurements is analyzed. An improved outdoor polarization measurement signal model, introducing the influence matrices of depolarization effects, is proposed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed signal model, revealing that in addition to the co-polarization component in depolarization effects, the cross-polarization component can also significantly impact polarization measurement and calibration.
