Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact microstrip fractal patch antenna with uni-planar compact photonic bandgap (UC-PBG) structure is designed. The proposed antenna is suited for multi-band application in wireless network. A new cell of UC-PBG structures for microstrip antennas is adopted to suppress the surface waves and improve the radiation patterns. With a fractal structure, the antenna represents frequency-independent attributes and based on geometrically self-similarity, it can be widely used in the other multi-band application.
