Identifying the two-pole structure of Λ(1405)

Abstract

We propose a novel approach to identify the two-pole structure of the Λ(1405). These two poles originate from distinct flavor irreducible representations within the meson–baryon coupled-channel interactions, and can thus be individually probed in processes with well-defined flavor-eigenstate sources. Hadronic decays of charmonia, such as into Λ̄Σπ and Λ̄(1520)Σπ, serve as ideal channels for this purpose, enabling the approximate isolation of the flavor-octet and flavor-singlet poles, respectively. This SU(3) flavor filtering mechanism remains effective even in the presence of flavor-symmetry breaking. Given the large charmonium data samples already available, this approach offers a promising pathway to resolve the long-standing puzzle of the Λ(1405).
