High-speed permanent magnet motor with magnetic bearings: Multi-physics analysis, cooling design and experiment

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

In order to solve the heat dissipation problem of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) motor with magnetic bearings (MB), a stator jacket with water cooling and forced air convection cooling was designed. A multi-physics thermal analysis and design method based on coupling finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was presented. Two electrical machines, whose power is 30kW and related speed is 60000rpm were developed for testing the effectiveness and feasibility. The experimental results verify the validity of the cooling mode and prove the accuracy of the multi-physics coupling method.
