Abstract

The resolution of radar imaging is linked to the aperture. To enhance the angular resolution by increasing the number of antennas in the array, conventional approaches come at a high hardware cost. This paper presents a novel approach that employs phase modulation of the signal and enhances phase information in the echo signal to boost antennas virtually. By utilizing the virtual array technique, it is possible to enhance the angular resolution of the MIMO radar without incurring additional hardware costs. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of the principles and models underlying this technique, and investigates its robustness by exploring various boundary conditions and potential applications.
