Abstract
A new kind of yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) phosphor screen has been successfully developed for the projection cathode ray tube (CRT) by depositing phosphor powder on YAG faceplate with centrifugal sedimentation technique. Very high luminance, high resolution and better contrast, which meet the stringent requirements of large screen projection display, can be achieved because YAG faceplate has higher heat conductivity than conventional glass faceplate. The half-intensity line-width of the 3-inch YAG phosphor screen can be 85 μm at a cathode current of 0.5 mA. The red, green and blue YAG phosphor screens reach the luminance of 6.2×104, 1.4×105 and 8.3×103 cd/m2 at a cathode current of 1.0 mA and an anode voltage of 29 kV, respectively.
