Henry James' novels in the contexts of travel ethics and ethical literary criticism

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Henry James' novels of European journey are characteristic of travel ethics and literary ethics, representing Americans' travel in Europe and their ethical conflicts with the local people. Because their ethical mentalities are irreconcilable with the ethical environment of the countries in which they sojourn, the American travelers, whether they are innocent girls, or middle-aged men of worldly experience, all undergo a certain ethical recognition during their journey in Europe, some of them even paying the price of life. The revelation of European journey in Henry James' novels and the ethical recognition, is very important in understanding the narrative features of the novelist and the true nature of his international theme.
