Abstract

The heat treatment process and formation mechanism of fully lamellar (FL) microstructure for a hot-forged high Nb containing Ti-Al alloy were studied, and a novel heat treatment process (1480°C × 10 min → 1345°C × 15 min → 900°C × 2 h → AC) was put forward. During the heat treatment process, both the new β grains and α grains nucleate and grow which breakdowns orientational relationships of original hot-forged microstructure and form uniform α phase. Thus uniform and fine fully lamellar microstructure can be obtained after the new heat treatment process.
