Abstract
The dovetail assembly and the bridge-flat model are two typical fretting fatigue tests. This article concentrates on the fretting fatigue of the dovetail assembly, utilizing a sub-scaled specimen tested under cyclic loading. Simultaneously, fretting tests on the bridge-flat and combined high and low cycle fatigue tests on the dovetail assembly were conducted. These tests were analyzed in conjunction with the dovetail assembly to understand the stress state characteristics in the contact region. The results from both tests and finite element analysis highlight that fretting leads to a significant reduction in fatigue life, primarily attributed to stress concentration at the edges of the contact area. Building upon the method of stress gradient correction, a life prediction model for fretting fatigue is proposed, demonstrating good accuracy in predicting fretting fatigue life.
