Abstract

The (6Li, 7Li* ^ a + t) breakup channel has been investigated for the first time in an experiment with a 209Bi target in which the 4.63-MeV 7/2-and 6.68-MeV 5/2-resonant states of 7Li were well identified and extracted with the help of a large-solid-angle detector array. The angular distributions of 7Li* prior to its breakup were reconstructed via fragment coincidence measurements, which were well reproduced by detailed coupled discretized continuum channels (CDCC) plus coupled channel Born Approximation (CCBA) calculations. Further theoretical calculations indicate that the formation of the two resonant states of 7Li proceeds mainly via a two-step mechanism, driven by the coupling between the projectile excitation and single nucleon transfer.
