Abstract

A fin-actuator system is designed for fundamental aeroelastic research mainly considering the effects of the actuator dynamics on the flutter characteristics of the fin. A plunge mode and a rotational mode are the critical modes naturally uncoupled. An actuator with a DC motor and a planetary gearhead is used to provide the elastic supports for the rotational mode. The main tasks of this paper are to model the actuator’s dynamics and structural dynamics of the system and then complete the synthesized modeling. Continually, the models are validated by the dynamic stiffness testing of the actuator and the ground vibration testing of the structure. At last, an iterative v-g method in frequency domain is introduced to calculate the flutter boundary of the fin-actuator system.
