Abstract
30 years retrospect about fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) technology and application is made simply. The basic principle is introduced and its characteristic and key technology are summarized. For the application in optical finder and observation satellite, the technology of typical LN200 serial FOG inertial measure unit is demonstrated. Meanwhile, the successful application, such as air bone forward looking infrared and stratospheric observatory for infrared astronomy and high accuracy satellite observer are introduced, which provides reference for FOG applied in relative field. The FOG technology and application in China are summarized too. With 30 years development, FOG has achieved very high performance and becomes the main inertial instrument.
