Abstract

According to the results of visual examination, chemical analysis, metallographic examination, scanning electronic microscope examination and corrosion products analysis, it is concluded that the main reason of the bursting failure of waste heat boiler pipes of SA-178A steel is heavy thinning of pipe-wall caused by type II hot corrosion. The combination of high temperature creep and pressure of boiler pipes caused by coolant accelerates the bursting failure of boiler pipes.
