Abstract

Failed tubes on south ketone-benzene air cooler was examined by using optical microscopy, micro-sclerometer, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and EDS analysis etc. The result indicates that electrochemical corrosion, pitting, turbulence and erosion corrosion and their interaction are the main causes of the perforating and leaking of the tubes. Besides, some measures for corrosion prevention are postulated.
