Abstract

The three dimensional (3D) MIMO is a key technology to improve system performance. In this paper, based on the 3D channel model developed by 3GPP, three limited feedback schemes are proposed. In vertical domain, scheme I makes a sectorization based on the users’ Zenith of Departure angle (ZoD) to construct the precoding vector. Each user’s ZoD is selected to construct the precoding vector for the vertical domain in scheme II. Scheme III calculates the optimal angle for the precoding vector through the uplink pilot training. System-level simulation is conducted to evaluate the performance of the 3D MIMO under 3D-UMa and 3D-UMi scenarios. Simulation results reveal that the three schemes have a better performance than the traditional 2D MIMO scheme. Also scheme III performs the best, followed by scheme II and scheme I.
