N2 - Digital all-pass system is the important part in the digital signal processing. It has been widely applied in nonlinear phase compensation, minimum phase and all-pass decomposition, digital notch filter design, etc. To overcome the shortcomings from the traditional classroom teaching, three-dimensional (3D) graphs and their contour maps are introduced to explain the amplitude response of an all-pass system in digital signal processing. They make the pole-zero plot and frequency response visually intuitive and easily understandable. The proposed method has been practiced and verified in classroom teaching for five years. It can be applied to other parts of digital signal processing directly, including transform domain analysis, digital filter design, etc., or as a useful reference to science and engineering courses.
