Abstract

A large-mode-area Yb3+ -doped double clad fiber laser operating in CW pump and pulsed pump regime, respectively, is described. With CW pump, a 4.6 W quasi-continuous output operating in the 1.09 μm is obtained, when the pump power is 10.4 W. With pulsed pump, the laser generates nanosecond pulses with a stable repetition rate of 5 kHz. A single-pulse energy of as much as 0.26 mj with a peak power of 5.3 kW is obtained.
