Abstract

An experimental investigation of acoustic coupling between cavity flow and cross circular cylinder wake was conducted. In this experiment, l and h are changed to determine the relative positions between cross circular cylinder and the cavity. For cavity noise, Rossiter modes is nearly the same in far field results and near field results, cavity modes is only observed in near field results. For vortex shedding noise, it is mainly observed in far field results. Vortex shedding noise is apparent when h is higher and l is smaller. Coincidently, suppression effect on Rossiter modes and enhanced effect on cavity modes are also better when h is higher and l is smaller. Besides, Rossiter modes is more like a resonant tone after suppression by cross circular and the enhanced cavity modes are chosen by the tonal frequencies of the vortex shedding noise. Finally, there is an obvious boundary acquired from St Contour which can be regard as a reference to judge the strength of the interference between cross circular cylinder wake and the shear layer separated from the leading edge of the cavity.
