Abstract

A novel variable geometry flame-holder ("VGF" for short) based on v-gutter has been experimentally studied on a two-dimensionally combustion test-bed for its combustion characteristics. The effect of the change of gutter trailing edge width w on combustion efficiency and exit temperature distribution in different operating conditions was analyzed emphatically. Furthermore, the effect of the change of w on combustion status and flame structure was discussed by the combustion images in recirculation zone. Results show that: for the test conditions, (1) when w/h changes in 1.25~2.00, there is a certain range change in combustion efficiency. (2) w/h=1.25 shows specificity because the VGF combustion status and flame structure have changed at this point. (3) In the stable combustion condition, temperature of outlet cross-section center increases with the w decrease basically. Results and experimental data presented would enhance the phenomenological understanding of this novel VGF, and would contribute to the next experimental study and numerical simulation on it.
