Environmental effectiveness ontology based method for enhancing FMECA

Abstract

Environmental effectiveness is not considered sufficiently in product design. Reliability problems caused by environmental effectiveness are very prominent. Meanwhile, large amounts of data obtained by environmental testing and monitoring had not been effectively used in reliability design and analysis. Environmental effectiveness information had not been fully utilized for improving product reliability. To solve the above problems, ontology and rule reasoning based environmental effectiveness analysis (ORR-EEA) method was proposed. The ORR-EEA method included ontology based environmental effectiveness knowledge modeling method and rule-based knowledge reasoning method. In this paper, environmental effectiveness ontology is designed. Domain rule base is formulated by using the concept and properties indicated in the ontology. And the ORR-EEA method was applied in failure cause analysis and criticality determination of FMECA to achieve a semi-intelligent analysis for environmental effectiveness. Finally, an actual case of rubber seal for FMECA is presented to illustrate the usage of ORR-EEA method.
