Abstract

The arc ion plated NiCoCrAlY coating was irradiated by high-current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB). A comparison of high temperature properties was made between the HCPEB-treated and conventional NiCoCrAlY coatings. The isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests of two types of coatings were evaluated at 1323 K, and the finite element simulation analysis of the coating after cyclic oxidation test was carried out. The results indicated that the HCPEB-treated coating demonstrated superior anti-oxidation properties. The adherent, thinner α-Al2O3 scale effectively prevented the emergence of detrimental (Ni, Co)(Cr, Al)2O4 spinel oxide. Moreover, the HCPEB treatment promotes the transformation of θ-Al2O3 to α-Al2O3 in the initial oxidation stage. The effect of HCPEB treatment on oxidation resistance and TGO (Thermally Grown Oxide) spallation resistance of the NiCoCrAlY coating is discussed in detail.
