Abstract

The oxidation behaviour of a plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating at different temperatures was studied, and the formation of the thermally grown oxide (TGO) was also evaluated. The results show that with increasing temperature, the oxidation rate constants k increased, the composition of TGO is transformed from alumina oxides to spinels comprising oxides of Cr/Ni, therefore the oxidation of thermal barrier coatings accelerates. A quantitative expression between the temperature and oxidation rate constants k is deduced.
