Abstract

In order to enhance the understandings of the effects of slip boundary on air bearings performance and improve the accuracy of air bearing design, taking foil hydrodynamic bearings as study object, a dimensionless form of time-dependent compressible fluid Reynolds governing equation under slip boundary was derived. By the use of Finite Difference Method and Newton-Raphson method, the corresponding central difference format was established. The slip boundary's influence on the pressure distribution, load capacity and attitude angle of foil air bearing was discussed. Then, a comparative sensitivity analysis of the rigid air bearing and foil air bearing which had the same structure parameters to slip boundary was made. Finally, drawing a conclusion, due to the elastic deformation of the foil air bearing, the sensitivity of the foil air bearing to the slip boundary is much less than that of the rigid air bearing.
