Abstract

Cr-Al-Si and Cr-Al coatings were prepared on Ni3Al-Mo single crystal alloys by the powder pack cementation method. The isothermal oxidation experiment was carried out at 1100 °C for up to 100 h. The experiment results showed that the mass gain of Cr-Al-Si coating was 1.24 mg/cm2 after 1100 °C/100 h, which reaches the degree of completely anti-oxidation according to the standard of aviation industy. A protective α-Al 2O3 layer was observed on the surface of the coating. The weight gain of Cr-Al coating was 6.69 mg/cm2, and no dense and continuous Al2O3 layer formed due to seriously interdiffusion between coating and substrate. The weight gain of uncoated alloy was 39 mg/cm2. Large blocks of oxides spalled off arising from the oxidation of Mo, which generating NiMoO4 and MoO3. Further study showed that Si can resist the outer diffusion of Mo, thus retard the degradation rate of the coating. The oxidation resistance of Ni3Al-Mo based alloy improved greatly due to Cr-Al-Si coating.
