Abstract

Effect of Zr and Nb elements on glass-forming ability (GFA) of Fe-B amorphous alloy was studied according to the empirical rules for the achievement of metallic glass with large GFA. The addition of Zr element into Fe-B alloys with 20% B results in the appearance of glass transition. The GFA of Fe-B-Zr alloys could be increased by addition of a small amount of Nb element. The multiplication to the binary and ternary systems leads to the appearance of glass transition and increase of GFA.
