Effect of second-stage configuration on combustion in a dual-struts based staged supersonic combustor

Abstract

A two staged supersonic combustor with one strut at each stage was utilized to investigate the effect of the downstream strut configuration on the combustion efficiency. Two configurations were experimentally investigated in a direct-connected facility with a vitiated heater providing Mach 2.0 air-flow with total temperature of 1231K. The results showed that when downstream strut injected separetely at high equivalence ratio, the configuration with a wedge at the trailing edge obtained more combustion efficiency than the one without. When the fuel injected from two struts together, the influnce of configuration on combustion efficiency was affected by the equivalence ratio distribution and the injection position on the two struts.
