Abstract

The effect of Re on the recrystallization behavior of a Ni3Al based single crystal alloy has been studied in the present investigation. The samples of the alloy with and without Re were first grit blasted, then annealed at 1280 °C for 2h and 1220 °C for 10h separately. The microstructures of the samples were investigated by OM, SEM (BSE) and EPMA. The results showed that the recrystallization occurred in both samples. Recrystallization can be prevented by γ′ phase and Y-NiMo phase. The average recrystallization depth of each alloy was nearly the same under the condition of annealing at 1280 °C for 2h whilst the recrystallization depth in the dendrite arm was deeper than in the interdendritic region. In addition, element Re could promote the equiaxed grain nucleation. However, under the condition of annealing at 1220 °C for 10h the average recrystallization depth of the sample with Re was deeper than the sample without Re. It was observed that a cellular microstructure formed in the dendrite arm of the Re free sample while recrystallized grains appeared in the interdendritic region.
