Effect of profile deviation on turbine performance in whole engine environment

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The profile deviation may have a significant impact on turbine, and even on the whole engine. In order to investigate the effect of profile deviation, 3-D steady numerical simulations of a 3-stage turbine and experiments of a whole engine was conducted. The results indicate that the profile deviation lead to a small change in performance when investigate the turbine individually. But in the whole engine environment, the engine operating point change, and the inlet flow conditions, rotational speed, velocity triangle and details of flow field of the turbine vary remarkably. These result in a great enlargement of the effects of profile deviation on turbine performance.
