Abstract

The open-cell aluminium foams were fabricated by infiltration with different matrixes. The mechanical properties of quasi-static and dynamic compression were studied on MTS 810 and SHPB instruments. The experimental results reveal that matrix properties have a notable effect on the mechanical behaviors of foams. The collapse regions of brittle foams are wide and even, and the stress of ductile foams rises slowly with the increase of strain. The energy absorption efficiency of brittle foams is better than that of ductile foams overall.
