Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical analysis for the dynamic response of a rigid-perfectly plastic simply-supported beam with an imperfection in its midspan cross-section under uniform step, pulse or impulsive loading, while the supports are assumed to be free to move inwards. The complete solutions for the entire dynamic response process are obtained, and the dependence of the distribution of energy dissipated upon the imperfection parameter is discussed.
