Abstract

In this paper, we investigate travelers' day-to-day modal choice in a bi-modal transportation system with responsive transit operator, aiming to achieve various profit targets. The travelers have heterogeneous preferences for a car. On each day, travelers will adjust their modal choice based on the perceived cost difference between both modes. Meanwhile, the periodic transit frequency is set according to transit demand and frequency in previous period, while considering profit targets. For given profit target, there may exist unique or multiple fixed points of equilibrium, we establish the condition of multiple fixed points and discuss the stability of the fixed points in each case. The results we obtained could provide suggestions for the transit operator to design more appropriate transit schemes.
