Abstract

A dual-cell-gap transflective liquid crystal display (TR-LCD) with identical response time in the transmissive and reflective areas is demonstrated. In the transmissive area, strong anchoring energy condition is used to reduce the response time. In the reflective area, weak anchoring energy condition is used to increase the response time. And over-voltage drive technology is adopted to make the response time identical in the transmissive and reflective areas. The structure and principle of the TR-LCD are analyzed, anchoring energy in the transmissive and reflective areas is designed, the response time and electro-optic performance are calculated, and a dual-cell-gap TR-LCD with good electro-optic performance and identical response time is got in the transmissive and reflective areas.
