Abstract
On the basis of equivalent media theory in composite mechanics, the effective moduli of a composite of hollow spheres in a matrix are determined by four phase spheroidal model. The relations between bulk and shear modulus and the volume fraction of hollow spheres of a composite have been derived. For the isotropic material, the Young's modulus of material are also determined and the present results are compared with the experimental and theoretical data given by Huang et al. It has shown that the Young's modulus of composite predicted by the present model in the whole range of volume fraction of hollow spheres are close to experimental results than the Huang's model. In addition, by considering the effects of voids on properties of material, some better theoretical results which are quite in agreement with experimental data can be obtained.
