Abstract

This paper proposes a W-band sheet beam extended interaction oscillator. It adopts an elongated ladder structure instead of dumbbell structure to increase its beam-wave interaction efficiency. The ladder structure in this paper has a high characteristic impedance and is easy to trigger oscillation. PIC simulation shows that with a 21.9 kV, 2 A, 3.2 mm×0.2 mm sheet electron beam loaded, the extended interaction oscillator can generate an output power of 8.03 kW with a frequency of 94.39 GHz. The efficiency is 18.3%. The 3 dB bandwidth of the EIO is 237 MHz through voltage tuning, and over 3.77 GHz through the combination of mechanical and voltage tuning.
