Abstract

A reconfigurable active inductor CMOS low noise amplifier (LNA) was designed based on 0.18um CMOS process. The LNA is mainly used in GPS (1.575GHz), UMTS (2.1GHz), Bluetooth/WLAN (2.4GHz), LTE (2.6GHz) and WIMAX (3.5GHz). A cascode structure is core of the LNA circuit. A source follower and RC feedback as the second stage to provide input impedance matching. Another source follower achieves output impedance matching. Reconfigurable LNA design is achieved by reconfiguring the load of the LNA with an adjustable active inductor. Cadence Spectre simulation results show that by changing the bias voltage of a transistor in the active inductor, the reconfigurable frequency of the LNA is 13.7GHz with followed gain of 1820dB; the noise figure less than 2.82dB; the input return loss less than -13dB and the output return loss less than -15dB. Static power consumption is stable in all frequency bands consuming 20.1mW with the supply voltage of 1.8V, and the area occupied by the layout is about 0.18*0.13mm2.
