Abstract

A SMA-based hold down and release actuator for high preload is designed and validated. The realization of the release and resetting function depends upon the performance of the trigger unit, which is mainly composed of the SMA wire and the bias spring. According to the force and movement analysis of the trigger unit, the requirements for the trigger force and trigger displacement are required. On the basis, the geometry parameters of the SMA wire and the bias spring are obtained. At last, the function validation tests are conducted on the prototype.
