Abstract
This paper proposes a quasi-triangular magnetic pole array for a five-phase modular permanent magnet synchronous motor. This configuration offers several advantages. First, compared to the traditional radial alternating magnetic pole array, the proposed quasi-triangular magnetic poles exhibit higher magnet utilization and partially eliminate the back iron, resulting in a higher torque density. Second, the improved magnetic conductance of the main magnetic circuit enhances the winding's ability to suppress short-circuit currents. Additionally, compared to the radial alternating magnetic pole array, this configuration reduces the high-order harmonic content in the air-gap magnetic field, thereby decreasing stator iron losses during high-speed operation and reducing torque ripple. This paper first presents the schematic diagram of the proposed magnetic pole array. Subsequently, a comparative simulation analysis between the proposed and conventional configurations is conducted, demonstrating the superiority of the proposed design.
