Abstract

A corneal suturing nail based on shape memory alloy (SMA), which is applied to the corneal transplant operation, is designed. The characteristics of the SMA are researched, and the corneal tissue compatibility is verified according to the experiments. The size and shape of the nail are designed based on the corneal size and parameters. The finite element models of the cornea and suture nail are established to optimize the size of the nail by the finite element software ANSYS. The new idea and method for the corneal transplant operation are obtained, which simplifies the process of suturing to a large extent and avoid the operation of tying the suture knot and removing the stitches. The method is of great significance to the development of new medical technology.
