Abstract

Against good publication practice, key publications of relevance to the study were not cited as they should have been in our original manuscript, and we apologize for the omission. First, the authors regret that the following studies published previously are relevant to the underlying framework of the diffusion and reaction characteristics times for our core-shell system but were not cited in the study: [1] Angioletti-Uberti, S., Lu, Y., Ballauff, M., & Dzubiella, J. (2015). Theory of solvation-controlled reactions in stimuli-responsive nanoreactors. The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 119(27), 15723–15730.[2] Roa, R., Kim, W. K., Kanduč, M., Dzubiella, J., & Angioletti-Uberti, S. (2017). Catalyzed bimolecular reactions in responsive nanoreactors. ACS catalysis, 7(9), 5604–5611.[3] Kanduč, M., Kim, W. K., Roa, R., & Dzubiella, J. (2020). Modeling of stimuli-responsive nanoreactors: rational rate control towards the design of colloidal enzymes. Molecular Systems Design & Engineering, 5(3), 602–619.[4] Adroher-Benítez, I., Moncho-Jordá, A., & Dzubiella, J. (2017). Sorption and spatial distribution of protein globules in charged hydrogel particles. Langmuir, 33(18), 4567–4577.[5] Wolde-Kidan, A., Herrmann, A., Prause, A., Gradzielski, M., Haag, R., Block, S., & Netz, R. R. (2021). Particle diffusivity and free-energy profiles in hydrogels from time-resolved penetration data. Biophysical Journal, 120(3), 463–475.In addition, through our theoretical model, we reported that the anti/negative/inverse-correlation relationship between diffusivity and partitioning rendered the sensing time non-trivial due the interplay between steric and hydrophobic effects, which is consistent with previously published experimental [6] and simulation [7–9] data: [6] Parthasarathy, R., Misra, A., Park, J., Ye, Q., & Spencer, P.
