N2 - In this paper, a continuous zoom optical imaging system based on a liquid compound eye is proposed. The main imaging components of the system are composed of a liquid compound eye, two liquid lenses and a planar image sensor. The focal length of the liquid lenses and the liquid compound eye can be adjusted continuously by changing the liquid injection. Compared with the traditional solid compound eye imaging system, the proposed liquid compound eye imaging system can continuously change the field of view and the magnification of the target in real time, which improves the adjustability of the compound eye. In addition, as a relay imaging part, two liquid lenses in the system are used to eliminate the mismatch between the curved image surface of the compound eye and the planar sensor. According to the results of experiments, the system can achieve at least 1.7 times of magnification change and the field of view can change from 32 degrees to 46 degrees at a fixed working distance.
