Abstract

Light field display is a promising glasses-free 3D display that solves stereoscopic visual fatigue by reproducing the ray-based light field. However, achieving high 3D image resolution in the traditional methods relies on obtaining numerous high-resolution views, which conflicts with the real-time rendering. This paper proposes a state-of-the-art rendering method, called compressed-space instanced sampling (CSIS). Compared to the traditional rendering methods, the proposed method simultaneously achieves superior performances of high 3D image resolution and fast rendering speed via the optimal sampling of rays. Because of the clearness of 3D images and real-time generation of the 3D image source, an immersive viewing experience can be provided for the viewers, which promotes the practicality of light field display.
