Abstract

Travel mode choice of urban residents has important influence on traffic demand analysis. At present, a majority of the relevant literature is based on the perspective of trip. The angle from trip chain is rarely seen. This paper first introduces the travel mode choice preference data. An RP-SP survey is conducted in Chengdu. Then, the trip-based travel model choice model is built based on the multinomial logit. The maximum likelihood estimation is used to calibrate the parameters. Further, based on the trip chain perspective, the mode choice model is constructed. Two parts are included in this model: a home-based mode choice model using nested logit and a non-home-based mode choice model using multinomial logit. The limited information maximum likelihood estimates are chosen to calibrate the home-based model. Finally, the results of both models are compared. The advantage of conducting behavior analysis under the trip chain perspective is demonstrated.
