Abstract

Cognitive Digital Twins aim to enhance Digital Twins by providing a cognition-first approach. To that end, it is essential to understand the types of knowledge that can be realized in the digital domain and their interplay to deliver business value. This chapter describes the architecture and components developed to materialize Cognitive Digital Twins in the process industries. We share the experience and expertise developed throughout the EU H2020 project FACTLOG and conclude by describing how specific components addressed particular challenges concerning three use cases. The use cases correspond to oil refining, metal-forming processes, and the textile industry. It must be noted that when this chapter was written, prototypes of separate components were developed but not yet integrated into a single platform and were not deployed to production environments.
