Abstract
Biological & bionic manufacturing is a new intersectional innovative field of mechanical field and biological field. Biological manufacturing is to use biological species and materials as tools for manufacturing, different machining and forming methods are proposed, such as bio-removal machining, bio-bounded forming, bio-growing forming, bio-joining forming, bio-replicated forming, and bio-assembly forming. Bionic manufacturing is to imitate the shapes and functions of living creatures to produce different structures, such as the bionic material structures, bionic surface structures, bionic motion structures. The structures are usually complicated, to produce them with biological mode is a more convenient and faster way compared with the rapid prototyping method and traditional mechanical manufacturing method. The advantages of bio-forming technology in the field of bionic complex shape, structure and functional interfaces are demonstrated, which shows that bioforming technologies would have great potential applications in energy-saving, environmental protection, micro/nano fields.
